November 2017

Thank you to everyone who came along and supported our half term Junior Rally. We had so much fun!  The weather didn’t stop us too much either – in fact on Wednesday it felt like a mid-summer’s day.

Our three racing days included a tour of the north end of the harbour to seek out some of the racing marks. Overall winners were:

1st   Charlie South in his Laser Radial
2nd  Sam Watson and Eliza South in their Feva
3rd   Toby Greatorex in his Tera Sport
4th   Ben Millard and Luke Hooper in their Feva

For the first time in a couple of years, we competed for the Townsend Cup on Thursday. With light winds and warm water it was perfect conditions to throw a bunch of kids off Escort and watch them swim back to their boats on the pontoon. This was followed by sailing backwards, man (or duck!) overboard, knot tying and capsizing.   With 13 boats – a combination of Optimists, Teras and Fevas – on the water, it was mayhem, with plenty of laughter along the way.

Townsend Cup winners were:

1st   Toby Greatorex in his Tera Sport
2nd  Lucy Pitman in her Optimist

I hope you’ve all enjoyed your sailing this year, and won’t let the winter stop you! As well as winter training at ESC and around the harbour, in January you can join in the Snowflake race series at Chichester or the Chiller Series at Thorney Island, SC which are both suitable for Juniors. If we can get a team together that would be even better!

You may have met some of our new Junior Team members on Saturday.  They will all be in contact over the coming months to help finalise training plans and events for next year – you can find the full list of who's who under Juniors on the website.
