ESC JUNIORS SURVEY
30 September 2019

Thank you to all who completed the survey this August. We have had some great responses and ideas. We thought we would share some of the feedback.

  1. Communication - The direct to Junior email system (this email and all the other ESC Junior emails only goes to 300 or so members being juniors, their parents and grandparents and General Committee members) is working well. If you or someone you know are not receiving these ESC Junior emails, please login into the SCM Members' portal (Mailing lists) and update your mailing preferences. Facebook continues to appeal to some including parents. Some comments said they used the website but that it needs some work as it is cluttered, and the junior content needs to be all accessible in one place. Finally, an Instagram site run by juniors has been suggested and this is being investigated.
  2. Sailing - The feedback was for more social sailing and junior weekend events, to reduce the need for parents to take annual leave, some "destination sailing" with East Head and picnics mentioned. Free sailing with safety cover for the juniors to practice their skills and non RYA Race coaching were also suggested. Also events for paddle board and kayaks.
  3. Social - Family suppers, quiz nights and film nights were popular along with onshore play activities including the pool. Activities for our older youth members need to be explored.

As Junior Coordinators the survey has been really helpful and will help us plan the Junior event Programme for 2020. However, we do need more parents to volunteer to help run all these events. The Club has such a lot to offer families and volunteering to help is a wonderful opportunity for both parents and children to make friends and enjoy our beautiful harbour. Come and take part, it will be fun!

Laser Race Training

Patrick Bonner is running race training for Lasers this weekend, 28/29 September. Competency in sailing around a triangle, tacking and gybing is expected. Patrick will be adding some Laser specific techniques to these areas. For more information and booking click here.

Wanted Juniors to end the season in style!

We would like to offer Juniors who are currently at RYA stage 2, 3 and 4 an opportunity to get some time on the water and end their season on a high. Are you almost there with your course? Do you need some skills signed off or would you like to practice what you have learnt?

Come and enjoy some sailing time, with a safety boat and get a little help if needed. There are only 12 places available each day, so book now online. Saturday and Sunday 12 October (09.45 to 13.45) and 13 October (10.15-14.15), only £10 per session. Click here for on-line booking.

Coaching will take place over five weekends starting November 2019 and finishing in March 2020. Entry closes on 13 October 2019 and the coaches will then review all applications and set groups. We are unable to guarantee places until we are sure of who wants to take part.
