June 2017

Five Junior members were awarded grants this year from the Sir Peter Blake Fund, to help to pay for the cost of competing in National events, or to improve their racing skills.

Pippa Blake congratulated the winners, and said the Club was rightly proud of the successes achieved by so many young sailors in top racing events in Europe and further afield.

Henry Chandler and Louis Johnson are campaigning in  both the RS Feva and 29er classes this year, and their grant goes towards the cost of competing in the National and European events.

Ben Tweedle, one of the Club’s most talented windsurfers – he has won each of the junior national titles over the last six years – is now racing the RS:X and with help from the Fund will be competing in the World championships on Lake Garda this summer.

Sam Bradshaw, although only just 14, has  competed successfully with his RS Tera in various UK events last year and this, and is now planning to compete in the World championships this summer.

James Taylor, our Junior Captain, has been helping to train Martlets on the Mill Pond for two years, and has now received a grant to complete a race instructors course, so he can encourage our youngest sailors to take up competitive racing.
