CHICHESTER HARBOUR RACE WEEK REPORT
21 – 25 August 2017

Chichester Harbour Race Week, known to many as Fed Week, took place from 21 – 25 August. With an entry this year of about 330 boats it remains one of the biggest regattas in the country, if not the biggest.

The weather was good, except that on the Monday the wind didn't materialise in sufficient strength to allow all boats to stem the tide. So racing was abandoned on Monday and two races were held on Wednesday instead. Just as well because shortly after the Race Officers decided to abandon on Monday, the wind died completely!

The competitors included a number of ESC members. In addition, Escort, with a crew of four, was on duty each day as a mark boat with the job of recording sail numbers as boats rounded. Spritzer, one of HISC's committee boats, was in charge of Series B races with ESC members prominent among the race team on board.

Our Club sailors achieved top-ten finishes and all the results can be found on the Chichester Race Week website. Congratulations, too, to ESC Juniors, who came second in the Youth Inter Club competition and were awarded a plate.

As a change from shots of dinghies rushing about in all directions, the photo (top) shows Federation Club launches on their mooring awaiting the call of duty. Launches are (L to R) Slipper Maid from ESSC, Sinbad from Langstone SC, Pootle from Bosham SC and Escort. To the right of the launches is Spritzer, with Selene, the HISC ferry boat, alongside. RIBs galore were also in attendance.
