Club car parking and outside showers

As the clocks go forward and we move towards the first step on the Government's roadmap out of lockdown from Monday 12th April, we will hopefully see more of you at the Club for socialising with friends and fellow members as well as sailing and swimming, please take the time to read the below information which will hopefully assist you and others get the most out of our Club in the year ahead.

Car Parking

Whilst the Club is very fortunate to have its own free car park for the use of members, in order to maximise the benefit to all at peak times please consider the following:

  • All members cars parked in the car park must prominently display an ESC 2020/2021 car parking sticker. If you are a new member or have changed your car since last year these are available from the office. For all others, the stickers for 2020 all still valid for this current year so you just need to check it is still visible.
  • As we are likely to have more members holidaying at home this year, please consider the necessity to bring a car to the Club at all during peak times and, if you have a choice, think whether a smaller car might be sufficient for the journey. If at all possible if you live close to the Club, please walk or cycle if that is an option to give members living further afield a better chance of being able to park when they arrive.
  • If you are bringing a boat stored elsewhere to the Club please, wherever possible, do not tow trailers to the Club at peak weekends as we will be unlikely to be able to offer storage space and a boat trailer can often take up more space than a car. So please think of a quieter time to do so.
  • In order to police the parking situation, we are very likely to be employing a Parking Attendant at predicted busy times such as weekend lunchtime tides in the summer and Regattas etc. Their brief will be firstly to ensure that any car parked in the car park is owned by an ESC member and is displaying an appropriate window sticker, and secondly to ensure that the maximum space available is used. This may involve double-parking and using running aisles for parking, so you will be asked how long you intend to stay for when you arrive. Please be honest as you really wouldn't want to be blocked in by someone who has gone to East Head for the day when they said they were only calling in for lunch and vice versa!
  • If we all stick to the above guidance we will ensure that we can enjoy a fabulous summer at the Club with as few hassles as possible.

    Outside showers

The changing rooms are not expected to be open until May 17th at the earliest, and even then space indoors will be limited to six persons at a time and there will be single-use of the showers for the time being, so showering off will most certainly be at a premium. We have therefore installed two outside showers for use when you have been swimming or sailing and just want to rinse off. These are cold water only but hopefully if you have a wetsuit on or it is the height of summer, this shouldn't bother you too much and is far preferable to remaining sticky and salty from the sea. One shower has been installed to the outside wall of the ladies' shower block, by the dinghy washdown, and the other is at the far end of the terrace by the Oppie racks. Hopefully you will agree this will be a great improvement even if the changing facilities remain restricted for some time.
