Talk and Supper Thursday 23 September 19:00 Portsmouth Harlots, Dung and Glory

A short Bio of Andrew Neagus:

"I am a retired history teacher, an around the world backpacker (twice), a Blue Badge guide for central southern England, and I aspire to be a local historian. I also keep chickens, bees and daughters." His finely tuned wit weaves through his presentation.

Part I of his Portsmouth series is an entertaining subject entity in itself with no further follow-ups, (Portsmouth Part II etc) required.

Portsmouth - Harlots, Dung and Glory covers the origin and development of the settlement from 1100 until 1800. Naturally its history is closely related to the growth of the Royal Navy. The talk introduce us to some of the many characters who have been involved in Portsmouth's history including murderers, harlots, and the inventor of the umbrella. Kings, queens, admirals, authors, and actors will entertain us with their appearances.
