Start of Official ESC Club Racing!

The first official racing of 2020 was held on the weekend of 11-12 July with the restart series - we were due to start on Good Friday... It was fabulous to be back on the water and we started with a fleet of 35, all without incident and abiding by the Government guidelines. A perfect F2-3 was a great introduction to Saturday's race, but the direction and speed meant that the double-handers were

    Arrangements for racing

Racing for the rest of the season will use the attached Sailing Instructions, which are issued by both Clubs. We may have to update them as restrictions allow, but we'll let you know of any changes. Individual races or regattas may have their own SIs which we'll tell you about. There are no big changes, but we'd point out that these sailing instructions do not replace official Government guidance regarding appropriate social distancing and

Tales from the Archives - Reminiscences from Frank Bailey, the Club's longest-serving member

Interesting stories and facts from 100 years of Emsworth Sailing Club's history Reminiscences from Frank Bailey, the Club's longest-serving member Frank and his family joined the club around about 1946 when he was 8 years old. His father was a London policeman and the club, with remnants of the old upper-class attitudes and run by a cohort of admirals, was unsure whether he would be appropriate. In

    Booking club boats

Club boats (excluding Optimists) are available for bookings again from this weekend onwards, however there are a few changes we have made in order to protect you when using the equipment. Rather than relying on the time consuming, and possibly ineffective, cleaning and disinfecting of boats/SUPs between each use, we have decided instead to have a quarantine period of a minimum of 72 hours after a boat or board has been used.

Tales from the Archives - Developments at ESC

Interesting stories and facts from 100 years of Emsworth Sailing Club's history Developments at ESC We can all be proud of the clubhouse and facilities we have. This has been achieved over the last 100 years through a number of extension projects. This tells the story of a couple of early projects and shows the plans for two later projects which didn't go ahead. The first such project involved

Some easing of lockdown activities on the water

With so many of us out on the water it was inevitable and brilliant to get some stories from the water, as well as lots of pictures! Thanks to Jerry White for the action packed on-the-water pictures and to Celia Lynch for this picture of a group of ESC members on a kayak trip to Thorney Island last weekend, demonstrating social distancing! Also, thanks for the note that is reproduced underneath from Maggie

Landing on Fowley Island - treat wildlife with respect!

This is a message from the Harbour Conservancy: Our breeding birds need our help and understanding! Please avoid landing on or paddling close to islands and spits that support nesting birds, such as Fowley, Pilsey, Stakes and Ella Nore. There are nesting terns, waders and gulls in a number of places around the Harbour. They may have taken advantage of the reduction in human activity due to the current restrictions to
