Speaker supper » Speaker and Supper - Arctic Trek Challenge Ian Taylor
In February this year a few members of ESC joined a group of 17 local people, predominantly NHS workers, mainly from the operating theatres at QA Hospital, who undertook a 3-day, 75km trek in the Arctic Circle in temperatures down to -30oC.
Come along and listen to Ian Taylor talking about their experiences during this hugely challenging trip across frozen lakes and rivers and undulating forests, dragging all their kit and tents on pulks. Ian was joined by his wife Sian and Mike and Clare Jackson and they will be on hand to answer questions on the night.
The aim of the challenge was to raise £75,000 for the charity The Genie's Wish, a UK registered charity whose mission is to enhance the lives of people aged 0-40 years, living in England and Wales, who are suffering from a critical or terminal illness or living with a life-threatening medical condition.
Ian will also talk about the highs and lows of training and fund-raising and the trials of camping in sub-zero temperatures! And we'll find out if they made the target of £75,000.
Followed by supper of - Beef Cobbler, braised beef & mushrooms topped with light savoury herb scone & Red Leicester, pudding of warm ginger sponge with toffee sauce ice-cream
Talk and supper - £15.95pp
Talk only - £2pp
