Sail training

The main junior sail training activity at the Club is Martlets. This is the Optimist scheme which caters for children from age 7 (Year 2) up to around age 10 or 11 (or when a child no longer fits in an Optimist!). It follows the RYA scheme, and is designed to take juniors from having never stepped in a boat, up to a level where they can start to race.

Instruction is carried out by professional, paid instructors, and so there is a charge to cover costs. Martlets run from around Easter time to early July, at weekends. There are also some week-long courses held during the summer - the main one being during Chichester Harbour Federation Week, when the Club is less busy.

The Club also has several Club Racing Coaches who are qualified to run coaching courses for all members in order to improve their boat handling and racing skills. These courses are run on a less regular basis, and are announced in advance so that members can sign up.

Matthew Wright is the Principal of the Club's RYA Training Centre.
