The Club
Dear Members
Welcome to Emsworth Sailing Club's website, where you will find details of all the on-water and off-water activities currently planned, tide times and heights, racing and training information, opening times for Ollie's bar & kitchen, details of who's who within the Club and how to contact them, plus news items and Club photos from recent years. The website is updated on an ongoing basis and will give you the most up-to-date information.
The Club is full and has a sizeable waiting list (over 300) but we never rest on our laurels and continue to listen and adapt to the needs of our members. We have excellent facilities, i.e. a dinghy park with nearly 400 billets, large changing rooms, a fantastic clubhouse, a car park for almost 100 vehicles, and of course a heated outdoor swimming pool (open in high season), heated by our new solar panels. Our bar and kitchen needs are met by Ollie & Eloise Clift and their excellent team and the Club is run on a day-to-day basis by our fantastic office staff, Liz, Victoria and Linzi, and our very hardworking committee members who volunteer their time all year round, keeping the Club the envy of the harbour, whatever the weather.
On the water - Ann Williams and the Sailing Committee have put together a fantastic programme of racing, social sailing, adult and junior dinghy training and powerboat training. We have a growing fleet of dinghies available to rent, saving members the cost of buying, billeting, insurance and maintenance, and we also rent out stand-up paddleboards (SUPs), kayaks and windsurfers. New for this year, we have introduced rowing to the range of on-water activities for members to enjoy, with our own Celtic Longboat arriving in time for the new season. Rowing can be booked via 'Book/Club boats' in the Members area of the website, once members have completed a taster session.
Off the water - Debs Owen-Ellis Clark and the House Committee continue to plan all sorts of great events including suppers, talks, quizzes, bingo nights, bridge club, coffee mornings, nosh and natter lunches, discos and parties, as well as supporting the on-water programme.
In the kitchen - Ollie has cooked up lots of delicious new dishes to tempt you, so please check the 'Off Water' section of the website for full information.
Around our fantastic grounds - Craig Summers and the Estates Committee continue to improve, update, replace, remove, mend and decorate, so that the Club's facilities are the best that they can be for all our members.
Communications - we know how important it is that we communicate clearly with members. The Weekly Roundup email and the website continue to be the primary sources of Club information - they will give you the latest updates for all events and the website also contains a link allowing you to add the ESC programme to your personal calendar, so that you can keep bang up to date.
Volunteers - the lifeblood of our Club without whom it simply couldn't function. We have an extraordinary amount of talent within our membership, so if you would like to get involved, whether as a regular or on an occasional basis, please let the office know (01243 372850).
In summary, whatever your age and your interests, we aim to provide a full range of events to keep you happy throughout the year. If you want to get on the water, we want to make it as easy as possible whether you're racing competitively or just messing about with friends. If you want to stay ashore, we hope you'll enjoy the talks, quizzes, themed suppers, Happy Hours and parties. Or you can simply come and eat, drink, see your friends and make new ones, whilst enjoying the wonderful view of our harbour.
I am truly honoured to be serving my first year as your new Commodore. Please use the online programme to help you get the best out of the Club and I look forward to seeing you there very soon, whether out on the water or at the bar - please do come and say hi!
