Cold Water Swimming - Talk and Supper
Dr Heather Massey is a Senior Lecturer in Sport, Health and Exercise Science at the University of Portsmouth and is a member of the Extreme Environments Laboratory and Clinical, Health and Rehabilitation Research Team (CHaRT) at the university. Her area of expertise includes the effects of extreme environments on humans, including hypoxia, heat and cold. Heather is a well-known speaker on the radio and other media and regularly talks to local, national and international organisations about the risks and potential benefits of cold-water immersion, water safety and floating.
Heather joined the ESC regular cold-water swimmers earlier in the year and will be coming to talk at the club on Thursday 10 November 2022 about the effects of cold-water immersion on the body and a variety of health conditions. Heather is a keen open water swimmer herself and has completed a number of long-distance relay and solo swims including a solo swim of the English Channel and Lake Windermere.
