Candidates must be aged 14 or over to attend this course at ESC
Course content: This is a non-RYA course which aims to introduce potential powerboaters to boat handling and seamanship in a planing RIB. It will focuses on a gentle practical introduction to safe powerboating, including the effect of tide and wind on a boat's course, safe speed and the basic boat controls.
Ability after the course: it is hoped that candidates have the confidence and interest to attend the RYA Powerboat Level 2: Powerboat Handling (Planing) course.
Self-sufficient powerboater in the right conditions, aware of own limitations and those of craft
close quarters handling, especially coming alongside and turning in a confined space, as well as man overboard recovery, and collision regulations. It also covers how the ESC RIBs are launched and recovered, as well as where all the necessary kit is stored; and so is a valuable refresher before undertaking a powerboat duty at the club
