To all ESC Cruiser Sailors, their crew and to Big Boat Potterers,

The Yoke (an interclub cruiser race against ESSC).

In near perfect sailing conditions, ESC and ESSC boats raced from the Chichester mark to the Beaulieu River entrance on Saturday 8 June. Congratulations to ESSC on winning this year. Major contributing factors for this result were that only 6 boats participated from ESC against 17 from ESSC, and a number of ESC boats finished beyond the time limit. Cargo ships weren't kind to some of the fleet!
The day was rounded off by a very sociable summer evening enjoying a highly popular BBQ in the glorious location of Bucklers Hard.
Many thanks to Martin Stewart's excellent organisational skills on behalf of ESC and Jennie Vaughan at Slipper.
It is clear that the challenge is on, for ESC cruiser members to ensure return of the Yoke in 2025! This can be achieved in two ways; 1. A larger ESC fleet (vital because of the way points are calculated) and 2. Higher racing performance - perhaps a skilled ESC instructor can provide the necessary training.

Round the Island 2024

What is there to say! A number of friends had pulled out by Wednesday of last week while we kept hoping that the forecasted 35 knots would abate. Of course they didn't, so Kyra stayed at home and we are safe and the boat is undamaged!
If any ESC members actually started the Round The Island race (even if you retired) it would be great to hear from you for next week's Weekly Round Up. Please click here to submit your story.

The summer cruising events
Summer canapes & drinks: Thursday 11 July 19:00 hours

Please make a booking if you would like to attend by clicking here.
If you wish to stay for supper after the event, please contact Ollie's team to reserve a table (01243 373065).

ESC rally Tuesday 20 August
This is a three night rally, which will begin with a two night stay in Bucklers Hard followed by an option to go on for one night in Yarmouth.

Yarmouth is always busy during August but the harbour advises that as we will be visiting mid-week, they should be able to take us on a first come-first served basis (with a fleet of visiting Folkboats!) Please express an interest so that we can reserve space at Bucklers Hard, by making a booking here.

Slipper Rallies
We are invited to join the ESSC rallies - please put these provisional dates in your diary and further details will follow;
Tuesday 23-24 July - Yarmouth for 2 nights
Wednesday 7 August cross-channel to Cherbourg
Tuesday 24 September - Shepherds Wharf

Mark Broad.

We have an active cruising sailing section at ESC both on and off the water, and are always keen to see new cruisers join us.

We have a variety of opportunities on the water, cruising both locally and further afield, whatever experience you have. We have an interesting programme of cruising in company, rallies, and racing, as well as formal suppers and informal get togethers.

We encourage new and old friends alike and we all have a great time. Non cruiser members are always welcome to join us both on and off the water.

We have two important races per year, both against ESSC. Whilst we need the 'keen' and 'accomplished' racers, as we are, of course, always aiming to win, we welcome anyone to come along and take part.

The Yoke Trophy The Emsworth Yoke is awarded to the winning team and The Howard Cruising Trophy to the first ESC boat to finish.

The Folly Trophy The Folly Trophy is awarded to the winning team and The King Scott Trophy to the first ESC boat to finish.

The Volana Casket is awarded for the best Cruiser story/log, usually from the past year. The winner gives a presentation at the Fitting Out Supper.

We hold several rallies over the sailing season and try to explore new places each year as well as sailing to our long-term favourite spots.

We also hold several socials throughout the year. We have a few cruiser led suppers, but also encourage cruisers to come together at the general club events.

We welcome any cruising sailor, whatever your experience, to join in with any of the events.

If you want to know more please mail Mark Broad at cruisers@emsworthsc.org.uk.
