The Volana Casket
The Volana Casket is awarded annually for 'the most enterprising cruise of any one season'. Originally presented by Robin Harbud, a past Commodore of the Club, the award does not rely just on a log of a cruise or an extensive photographic album, but on an interesting account of an enterprising trip. Recent awards have been for a Shrimper trip from Emsworth to Poole, a row from Australia to Tasmania, a family cruise from Scotland to Italy and a motor boat trip through northern French canals.
The 2022 Volana casket was awarded to James Collings-Wells for a fascinating talk and presentation of their trip around the Scottish Isles. The winner for the 2023 Volana casket will be awarded at the Cruisers Fitting Out Supper in 2024.
The judges are the Rear Commodore (Sailing) and the Cruiser Captain. The winner will be asked to present an account of the trip at the Cruisers Fitting Out Supper, in March/April; if this is not convenient, another event can be arranged.
Please do contact Mark Broad, Cruiser Captain cruisers@emsworthsc.org.uk if you have a great trip to share with us.
