Pre-assessment for RYA Dinghy Instructor Course
In order to attend an RYA Instructor Course, potential candidates must attend and successfully pass a Pre Entry Assessment within 12 months beforehand.
ESC is holding a pre entry on Sunday morning April 25th 0900 to 1300 mainly aimed at those attending the Dinghy Instructor course scheduled for June 28 (Monday) to July 2 (Friday) 2021. However any Club member who is planning to attend a DI course is welcome to book onto the pre entry
As the RYA states, candidates should be able to complete tasks such as those listed below, sailing at all times with an awareness of the 'five essentials', and confirming they can sail in a controlled and confident manner, showing consideration for preparation, communication, approach and execution, at all times.
During the assessment the candidate will be asked to complete the following:
- Sail around a triangular course of 100m (minimum) legs to the best of their ability.
- Sail a tight circular course around a stationary boat, making only one tack and one gybe.
- Sail a 'follow my leader' course behind another boat.
- Pick up a man overboard dummy; the boat to be stopped and more than one attempt should not be needed.
On Sunday the pre entry will be completed in Fevas and due to COVID restrictions will be sailed single handed with a mainsail only.
Cost is free for those booking to do their DI course at ESC; otherwise £25
