The Swimming Pool closes Sunday 3 October

Swimming pool: end of season arrangements The swimming pool will close on Sunday 3 October this year, weather permitting. Whilst we have seriously considered keeping this popular facility open until later in the year, the boiler struggles to heat the water in the latter part of September once the outside temperature drops and it becomes extremely environmentally unfriendly to keep on trying to heat the water after that time. As suggested by some of our regular swimmers, we have also considered the option of keeping the pool open throughout October but stopping heating the water during this time. We are advised that the pool temperature will drop fairly rapidly to match something akin to the overnight air temperature (pretty chilly) and we feel that members might at that stage prefer to swim in the sea which stays warmer until much later in the season. We are investigating various options for the installation of a solar hot water system during next year, which as well as reducing our carbon footprint and pool heating costs throughout the summer season it may well give us options to extend the swimming season until later in the year.
