Spring Working Party (and old tyres!)

This past Saturday saw over 50 willing members in groups of six descend on the Club to carry out a range of duties all aimed at getting the Club back up on its feet after a long winter of lockdown.

Duties included weeding the car park, painting railings, clearing rubbish in the dinghy park and the installation of a new temporary wash-down facility to aid social distancing on the terrace.

In keeping with tradition, all attendees were rewarded with one of Ollie's pies and a well-deserved drink of choice; all seated within their groups of six of course! Huge thanks to all who attended. If you haven't been to a Working Party before, please do come to the next one.

As well as helping keep our Club in tip-top condition for the season ahead, it is a great way to get to know other members who you may not have met before and of course you get one of Ollie's legendary pies.

Despite being locked down for much of the winter months, the clear-out still generated enough waste to fill three tonne bags ready for collection.

We also collected more than 20 old car tyres from around the dinghy park and terrace! It continues to be a mystery where they all come from, but they are most unwelcome, as aside from the environmental impact of these so near to the water, they will cost the Club money to dispose of.

Please do not bring old tyres to the Club for any reason, there will always be a better way to do what you want to do with it and the environment and the Club's coffers will be all the better off for it.

Thanks,

Tim Keeping
Vice Commodore
