Speaker & Supper - Jon Wilburn & Steve Potter, the World's Toughest Row Atlantic, Thursday 16 May

We are very pleased to have Jon Wilburn and Steve Potter coming to talk about competing in this year's annual 3,000 mile Atlantic rowing race starting in December 2024 in La Gomera (Canary Is) bound for English Harbour, Antigua. The event attracts up to 50 teams and becomes a huge spectacle in both the start and finish venues! Together with their two other team mates their team is called 'Lessons from a Boat' (LFAB). None of the team have ever competed in this type of challenge before. They are aiming to raise over £200,000 for Diabetes UK, The Last Straw and Cancer Research UK.

As they undertake this immense challenge the LFAB team want to 'inspire' and 'teach' their 'lessons of a lifetime' with a global audience. The team will focus their lesson messages, in close collaboration with Plymouth and Chichester Universities, on two main themes: environment and wellbeing. The team are also working in partnership with a healthcare company and using clever technology to support lessons around blood sugar/glucose level management throughout training and the event itself. The many and varied 'lessons' started for the team the day they signed up some two and a half years ago however!

Jon and Steve will be bringing along their boat to the Club from 6pm, before the Talk begins, so members can see the boat and how it's set up etc.
