Vendée Globe

The Vendée Globe started from Les Sables d'Olonne started Sunday on 8 November 2020 at 12:02 GMT.

To all interested in some lock down sailing, Alongside the Virtual Regatta e-sailing program we have been using for the club's sailing series there is a very advanced sailing simulation available online via your PC or down loaded as an App on your tablet or smart phone. This program enables you to join 700,000 other virtual sailors around the work to compete in the Vendee Globe. The simulation uses real work weather and you race against the real life competitors like the 4 Brits below

You are able to join the fun by registering your boat via the Virtual Regatta Offshore home page where you can register for free. As the race has already begun the simulation places you in a mid fleet position so you are not disadvantaged because of your late entry. There are already players from Emsworth entered spread across the fleet. We have also registered an Emsworth Sailing club team which you will be able to join and battle against the other members of the club. The simulation is free to use, however as with the e-sailing game if you make a small purchase of £25 you get many of your operational activities automated (like sail optimum changes) which does make the simulation more user friendly. Instructions are as below, come and try your hand at navigating around the doldrums and crossing the southern ocean !

Logon to the site and register a user id

Register a new userid (this takes a couple of emails sent to your email account)

Familiarise yourself with the controls there is a tutorial via the Home Menu Question Mark icon

Select Vendee globe

Race On

If you want to join the Emsworth SC team;

From the home menu click on the team icon which shows a 3 people image in a shield shape

Type Emsworth into he search field

Select Emsworth SC

Click Join

If you are wanting to use your tablet or smart phone, the process is the same, only download the app from the link above and access the game via the app.
