Can ESC be RYA Club of the Year?
Published 13:31 on 23 Sep 2020
Every year the RYA and Y&Y celebrate the outstanding work that happens in sailing clubs through their 'Club of the Year' awards. With five different award categories, it was the one on 'sustainability' that caught the attention of the 'ESC green team'. Having launched our ambitious environmental plan earlier this year we felt we should throw our hat in the ring!
As part of our application, Mark Holliday produced a wonderful film highlighting the 'ESC story' - why we care about our Harbour and the actions we've taken to protect it. I'd encourage members to take a look, it really celebrates just how special our Harbour home and club is. The film can be viewed on the club's You Tube channel.
The application has been a labour of love for all involved and would not have happened without the fabulous efforts and video contributions of Jane Scott, Victoria, Liz, Debs Purdy, Matt Wright, Esme Greatorex and her fellow juniors, Harry Slight, Olivia and Georgina Le Quesne, Ben Haworth, Toby Field, Jack and Alice Waterworth. Many thanks also to Hugo Warwick for his great drone footage which he kindly let us use.
The RYA panel will meet in October to shortlist one club per region, plus two more at their discretion. One club will be selected as winner in each of the five categories. The finalists will be made available to the public via an online website were RYA members and Y&Y readers will be encouraged to vote for the club which they feel should be selected as the "Club of the Year". I will be keeping you updated on how we do.
I was really proud of ESC when we launched our Environment plan back in March. Looking at the contributions from our Juniors in the film, I am full of hope for the future of our club and our Harbour.
