Friday saw the last Opi Friday of the season with 24 young sailors taking to the water for the traditional end of season race against the coaches.
Battling an extremely low tide, light winds and dwindling light, two races were completed, with Zachary and Rory taking the honours. Most importantly, the kids put all their new skills to great use to ensure the coaches were well and truly beaten.
Starting with 4 kids 3 years ago, this parent-led training has gone from strength to strength, with over 30 kids taking part this year and many also venturing to other clubs to take part in open events as a result.
Designed to help progress their sailing skills, the training has helped kids of all abilities (level 3+) improve their skills and confidence. Eve, a regular Friday attendee says, 'Opi Friday has been a great place to learn and practice new sailing skills whilst making new friends. I have raced for the first time this year as a result, and it was lots of fun!'
The training will start again in the spring, when we foresee even more kids wanting to join in! If you think you can help with this, please shout. Until then it just leaves me to say on behalf of the children a BIG THANK YOU to all the coaches and to the Club for putting on such a great programme.
See you in the spring.
P.S. BIG THANK YOU to Ollie and the team for putting on the end-of-year catering. Sorry we were so late.
