Powerboat Level 2: Powerboat Handling Refresher
Assumed knowledge: This is a non-RYA refresher course for those already holding the RYA Powerboat Level 2: Powerboat Handling award gained in a planing craft.
Candidates must be aged 14 or over to attend this course at ESC
Course content: It aims to remind powerboaters about boat handling and seamanship in planing RIBs. It will focuses on low speed close quarters handling, especially coming alongside and turning in a confined space, as well as man overboard recovery, and collision regulations. It also covers how the ESC RIBs are launched and recovered, as well as where all the necessary kit is stored; and so is a valuable refresher before undertaking a powerboat duty at the club.
Powerboat Level 2: Powerboat Handling (Displacement)
Assumed knowledge: This is an add-on course for those already holding the RYA Powerboat Level 2: Powerboat Handling award gained in a planing craft.
Candidates must be aged 14 or over to attend this course at ESC
Course content: this course has the same content as the Powerboat Level 2: Powerboat Handling planing course as adapted for displacement hulls. It provides the skills and background knowledge needed by the competent powerboat driver and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence. It aims to teach boat handling and seamanship in displacement powerboats. It focuses on low speed close quarters handling, particularly coming alongside, man overboard recovery, and collision regulations.
The course will consist of a teaching session led by an RYA Powerboat Instructor. After the teaching there will be the opportunity to be directly assessed for the displacement endorsement to be added to the existing RYA Powerboat Level planning award already held.
