Speaker & Supper - Thursday 15 February 19:00
Published 00:00 on 15 Nov 2023
Peter Clarke, retired senior Metropolitan police officer, will be visiting the Club on Thursday 15 February to speak to us about his high-profile career, which reads like a list of some of the most challenging roles in recent public service.
From his early days as Divisional Commander in Brixton at a time of serious public disorder in 1995, to more recent times as HM Chief Inspector of Prisons, Peter has always asserted and maintained a robust independence from political, campaigning or commercial pressures.
Peter is well known as a frequent contributor in the broadcast media, has appeared before many Parliamentary Select Committees and has been instrumental in the development of legislation in the UK.
His talk will focus mainly on his job from 2002-2008 as Head of Counter Terrorism Command and National Coordinator of Terrorist Investigations, but will also touch upon elements of some of the other things he's had the misfortune to be concerned with!
- The investigation into the death of Diana, Princess of Wales
- The killing of Alexander Litvinenko
- Islamist influence in Birmingham schools
- The state of prisons in the UK
Peter is a cricket and car enthusiast in his spare time.
Followed by supper of; Chicken & leek pie with seasonal vegetables, apple & blackberry crumble & ice-cream.
Talk & supper - £18:95 pp
Talk only - £4:00 pp
