Important ESC update: East Wing Improvement Project

Published 17:49 on 5 Jan 2026

The last couple of weeks have been a busy and fascinating time at the Club with progress continuing on the East Wing Improvement Project. I would encourage everyone to take a look at the SmugMug photo library to see not only what has been achieved so far, but also some of the wonderful surprises uncovered along the way, including an old fireplace in the entrance and sections of parquet flooring revealed in the outer office at a lower level.

Despite the building works, activity in the Clubhouse has continued as normal. While we remain limited to 60 people at any one time during standard operation, this has proved entirely manageable, so please don't let it deter you from coming down. As ever, keep an eye out for Ollie's specials they're well worth it.

---

From Monday 5 January we hand over the East Wing to Farndell Builders for 12 weeks of construction. This long-awaited project will bring the East Wing up to the same high standard as the rest of the clubhouse.

We only send global emails for important information, such as this project, and we will ensure everyone is regularly updated on the progress and impact on the clubhouse and facilities.

As a quick recap, this essential project, which has been discussed for over 20 years, is fully funded from reserves, with no extra cost to members, and will significantly upgrade and improve the onsite facilities including the addition of an accessible ground floor toilet, refurbished ladies and gents toilets and a new inner door to improve heat retention.

We hope for minimal challenges but there will be inevitable unforeseen issues arising as the East Wing has not been 'touched' for many years.

The following restrictions will apply during the build to ensure that we comply with fire regulations:

  • Maximum of 60 people (including staff) in the building
  • Please do not turn up expecting to sit at the back of events - you may be turned away
  • If an event reaches capacity, it will be marked "Clubhouse Full" on the online calendar
  • Ollie is planning a number of themed evenings such as his monthly 'steak night' and these will be by pre-booking only - please look on the Club Calendar and Weekly Roundup for these
  • Progress updates and availability will be posted on our news page here, the Weekly Roundup and via update emails
  • Front door out of action - access via main gate only
  • Toilets - changing rooms only
  • Outbuildings and kit - access remains available
  • Car park remains open

To avoid disappointment and for up to the minute opening info please do phone ahead: Bar/kitchen: 01243 373065 / olliechef@aol.com Office: 01243 372850 (09:30-13:00 daily except Wed & Sun).

The Office has relocated to the North Room but the opening hours remain the same - 09:30-13:00 hours daily, except Wed & Sun.

Additional Notes
Ollie's team may trial new methods (e.g. takeaway drinks, carvery options) - please be patient.
If you're part of a group that meets regularly, please speak with Ollie about possible alternative times.

Be extra vigilant for safety and please report issues via the digital reporting form https://forms.office.com/e/UppZErHVFR .

It may feel inconvenient, but the end result will be worth it!
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.....and please don't stay away!
