Rear Admiral Iain Lower CB MA FDIRDI AFNI, Deputy Master, Trinity House & Chief Executive of the General Lighthouse Authority for England, Wales, The Channel Islands and Gibraltar.
Iain will give a fascinating illustrated talk about the work of Trinity House and its role in running the lighthouses and navigational aids around the coasts of England and Wales.
Prior to his job at Trinity House, Club member Rear Admiral Iain Lower was the Commonwealth War Grave Commission's Director of Strategy and Commonwealth Affairs, where he was responsible for creating and implementing the CWGC's new strategy, strengthening relationships across the globe, and communications.
Before joining the CWGC, Iain served in the Royal Navy for 32 years, in a career that included 4 sea commands, planning operations across Africa, a stint in The Pentagon and, most recently, in the MoD as the Assistant Chief of Naval Staff and an executive member of the Navy Board leading on strategy, policy & external affairs. He also represented the Royal Navy on the National Council of Maritime UK, the Board of the Chamber of Shipping, the Advisory Board of London International Shipping Week and co-chaired the Shipping & Defence Advisory Committee.
Iain is a Freeman of the City of London, an Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute, a Visiting Fellow of the Durham Institute of Research, Development and Invention, and was, until recently (standing down to assume his current role), a trustee of The Seafarers' Charity.
