Rob Southern writes: Five Ospreys from Emsworth attended the Osprey Nationals in Mounts Bay on 3-6 September: Simon and Jack Townsend in 1317, Ben Townsend and Ed Richardson in 1322, Anthony and Flora Reeves in 1329, Adam and Tristan Southern in 1369 and Rob and Beanie Southern in 1387. A fleet of 45 boats sailed in epic scenery and some great conditions. The fleet is stacked with some exceptional sailors including the recent Fireball World Champion DJ Edwards, Matt Rainback and Phil Angrave and Terry Curtis. And is renowned for being friendly and laid back out of the water.
Our Emsworth crew had a huge amount of fun, in some windy, wavy, and sunny conditions. Ben and Ed managed 18th overall with a couple of top 10 places. Simon and Jack won the Novice Trophy (!!) in 21st and Adam Southern won u25 Helm in 32nd place. The 2 father daughter teams battled it out over the 7 races, with the Reeves just pipping the Southerns by one place.
Ospreys are fantastic boats, and a lot of fun was had by all. (photo by Kevin Francis)
