Beach and dinghy park clean

Published 00:00 on 1 Feb 2022
In spite of the lashing rain and challenging winds, a very impressive 64 locals wrapped up and turned up for the first beach clean of the year (including one lady who only moved to the area on Saturday and who wanted to throw herself into local life straight away!).
They set off to the foreshore and dinghy park armed with gloves, bags and litter pickers to collect what the winter winds had blown in and 2 hours later had collected an incredible 147kg of rubbish, which is both brilliant and awful depending on your perspective - very well done all.
I found myself getting slightly fanatical in the dinghy park but aside from collecting plastic wrappings, duck tape, rope cuttings, bits of sponge, plastic bottles and broken glass, I noticed that after the recent high winds, the covers of many dinghies have come loose so do please take a moment to check that your boat is secure and protected.
Thank you to Bianca Carr (from The Final Straw Foundation and also ESC's Environment Lead) for arranging the beach clean and to all of the fantastic volunteers who came to help clean up our harbour. Find out about upcoming local beach cleans.
