Cruiser racing 2022

This year both our cruiser races will take place in June, with the Yoke on the 2nd June and the Folly on the 18th and 19th.

Martin Stewart has kindly agreed to continue to manage all things cruiser racing for us again this year....so a bit of background about Martin.

I caught the sailing bug from my parents when I was about 6.

I raced dinghies (Cadets, Fireflies, Enterprises, Lasers) until I was in my early 20's at my home club on the River Mersey.

In the early 70's I turned to sailing cruiser boats.

As a family we have had many adventures sailing to the West Country and across the channel. Our highlight was in 2010 when we sailied from Emsworth to the Baltic and back.

I've been a member of ESC for about 20 years. Although a cruiser sailor, I have spent many years on the sailing committee with the brief of 'Dutyman' coordinator.

I'm looking forward very much to the challenge of ensuring that ESC retains the Yoke trophy in 2022 and that it continues to be displayed in the club bar. However, an even bigger challenge is to win the Folly Trophy which has been displayed in the Slipper SC for more years than I care to think about. The problem we have had with the Folly is that we have never had enough boats to offer a serious challenge. Maybe we can change that in 2022!
