Adult sail training

From beginner to improver, whatever your ability in a dinghy, whether it's your first time helming, refreshing some long-lost skills for your youth or just trying to get near the leaders in a race, do please let us know your needs and we will endeavour to organise an RYA course or a few 1-2-1 sessions at a time that works for you.

Prices will vary depending on the ratio of student(s) to instructor. If you feel you may be interested, please contact the training team at training@emsworthsc.org.uk.

Calling all current dinghy, powerboating and windsurfing instructors

Want to teach at ESC in 2022? You will need to attend one of the induction sessions below, both of which will be held by Zoom on:

Session A - Saturday 2 April at 17:30

Session B - Monday 11 April at 17:30

Please book here https://www.emsworthsc.org.uk/booking/type/social-1.

Attention all lapsed instructors

It has been difficult for instructors to maintain their qualifications during the pandemic, but the RYA is keen not to lose competent instructors from the training schemes.

If you fall into this category, there is an opportunity to revalidate your award on Sunday 27 March. This applies to Powerboat Instructors who are up to 2 years out of date (course completed in 2015) and Dinghy Instructors who are up to 5 years out of date (course completed in 2012). If these dates do not work for you, please contact me as below.

Booking is via the RYA South website: go to RYA South Instructor & Race Coach Courses & CPD. https://www.rya.org.uk/training/teaching/regional/south-instructor-and-race-coach-courses-and-cpd.

RYA Assistant Instructor course - adults only

This is an opportunity for sailing parents who are keen to help support "Time on the tide" (and other initiatives which provide free sailing for young sailors) with safety cover and some instruction.

The RYA Assistant Instructor qualification is an RYA Instructor award and is valid only at the centre where it is held. This 2-day course is being held on the weekend of March 19-20 from 09:15 to 17:15 hours, and costs £40.

Attendees must be able to sail to the standard of RYA Seamanship Skills, and ESC requires all patrol boat coxes to have an RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate. For more information and to book please follow this link https://www.emsworthsc.org.uk/booking/type/training-1.

Final call for single-handed instructors affected by Covid

During the height of the pandemic, the RYA instructor courses were reduced to 3 days and attendees passing this course were only able to teach in single-handers. The final opportunity to upgrade this award to full Dinghy Instructor status in the South Region will be at Burghfield near Reading on the weekend of March 26/27. Booking is again via the RYA South Region website.
