This talk was given by Club member Dr Katherine Bond, Olympic performance psychologist and executive coach.

A big thank you to Katherine for giving up her time to give an incredibly enjoyable and informative talk to 90 members last Thursday. Katherine certainly kept everyone's attention.

Catherine Wilson, who organises the monthly Speaker Suppers, says, 'Everyone was amazed by the number of support staff involved behind the scenes at the Olympics and Paralympics. As spectators of the Games we just see the athletes competing on the day. It was fascinating to hear about preparing the competitors mentally for the challenge of competing on the world stage e.g. coping with the challenging environment of the Olympic arenas, the village and all the pressures from the media, as well as managing family and friends. The fact that up-and-coming competitors start being coached years in advance shows the importance of ensuring they are mentally as well as physically prepared.'
