Start of Official ESC Club Racing!

The first official racing of 2020 was held on the weekend of 11-12 July with the restart series - we were due to start on Good Friday...

It was fabulous to be back on the water and we started with a fleet of 35, all without incident and abiding by the Government guidelines. A perfect F2-3 was a great introduction to Saturday's race, but the direction and speed meant that the double-handers were never really in it - places 1-9 went to single-handers. Sunday was more wind than predicted, and eagerness on the start line led to the season's first general recall with at least eight boats over the line. The two Clubs were able to introduce digital sign-on and sign-off, with all thanks to Alex Gawley for his work in coding the tool. Not only does this help the sailors, but the Race Officers and results are helped with having a single source of sailors, and not having to decipher hand-writing! There are a number of improvements already in-hand, and we'll be looking to improve this throughout the season.

The programme for the rest of the season is still being tweaked, but please check on the website for the latest Sailing instructions, and if you can volunteer as a household for safety or race officer, we'd be grateful. Next weekend is the third in the 'Restart' series, the Gough Cup (Ladies Race) and then Youth Week, where the sun will be out and perfect winds will be enjoyed by a mix of junior fleets...
