ESC proposes new racing courses

We've been working with ESSC on some adjustments to the standard courses that we run, correcting errors and improving existing courses so that we have some for all wind directions. We've also revitalised the shorter courses...

One of the main intentions was to solve 'Echo' as a first mark where there's many boats arriving at the same time. Unlike many of the marks we sail around, we can use Echo as a port- or starboard-rounding mark, so we've mixed it up.

The other suggestion we have is to have Echo as a last mark for races that start to the South, leading to a short beat to the finish. This means that the first boats finishing the race in a certain amount of time can do a second lap - there's a feeling that on some courses the faster boats spend more time preparing for the race than actually racing.

If the race is taking longer, then the race officers can shorten as the boats approach the line on the way to Echo.

We have created ESC Forums which are an online place to chat about club stuff and for members to share. See link.

Please would you take a look and let us know your comments?
